Metasploit "Database not connected"; When I use a database command within Metasploit (msfconsole, i.e. "db_nmap -A <subnet>", i get "[*] Database not connected"

Hi community,

Just got this awesome pad and am learning tools one by one. I started with nmap, and now moving onto Metasploit. I will appreciate any help on a few issues I'm having:

Scenario: When I use a database command within Metasploit (msfconsole, i.e. "db_nmap -A <subnet>", i get an error message that says "[*] Database not connected".

Questions:
Is there a database installed on pwn pad 2014? If so, which one? How do I get it to connect to metasploit? Is the database username "msf"? How about the password?
If no database is installed, has anyone tried installing postgresql and configuring it to work with Metasploit on the pwn pad 2013/2014?

Thanks,
Carlos

I think it needs postgresql to work, and pwnpad 2014 doesn't have it installed. I tried to install it but i got some errors.

cLeAv0,

Thank you. Sounds like a thread should be started on getting postgresql connected to metasploit. :) Lets do it!

PawPad community,

Any suggestions or starting point on installing Postgresql and configuring it to communicate with Metasploit on the PwnPad? I'll be experimenting (and starting a new thread and posting successes and failures) with the 2014 model.

Binky's Kalipwn supports postgresql and even armitage (inside vnc). It is compatible with other custom roms as well. I recommend it.

I dont know for sure, but I dont think I have seen an official post here on these forums from Pwnie Express developers.

Just sayin...

0ld3nglish800,

Are you talking about this:

Interesting...! Would you, or anybody else, educate me on what the differences are between the Binky's Kalipwn and the stock pwn pad 2014?

Thanks,
Carlos

Note that this was all just compiled from days of searching the net.

1. Fix tzdata error on apt-get:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/tzdata.postinst

Try putting 'set -x' on the second line of the script, then run 'dpkg --configure tzdata'.

then apt-get update,apt-get upgrade on chroot

2. Fix broken permissions etc:
edit /usr/sbin/update-rc.d
# Blacklist
# postgresql disabled (comment)

#Whitelist
postgresql enabled (add)

or

on chroot
update-rc.d postgresql defaults
update-rc.d postgresql enable

then

useradd postgres

groupadd -g 3003 aid_inet
usermod -aG aid_inet postgres

apt-get install postgresql

3. Installing metasploit service:
apt-get install metasploit

after installing, edit msf.sh on pwnpad-scripts folder to:

#!/bin/bash

clear
echo
echo "Starting Metasploit this will take a minute...."

service postgresql start
service metasploit start
msfconsole

this is just a simple guide. i just wrote this using the n7 going to make it more user friendly when i can post on a desktop.

Tested metasploit web ui working.

cLeAv0,

Thank you very VERY much. I'm going to attempt to install postgresql on the pwnpad 2014 this weekend using your steps.
