Hi all, Here is updated instructions to get GPS data into Kismet with the Pwnpad. If you use mybackup image for Kali all you have to do is start Bluenmea then run Kismet (bluetooth and GPS must be enabled). But for those still using the awesome Pwnpad, here you go! Installation Download BlueNMEA 2.1.3 (or through Google Play Store/F-Droid)
Try to match the configuration with mine below under the GPS section: ![]()
Replace the quotes with the following:
Installation Completed Turn on Bluetooth & GPS Run BlueNMEA application Start Kismet script ![]() Congratulations! It works! Of course you will see networks and your home GPS will not be blacked out like a redacted document. From here you can run Giskismet if you have it installed. I've made an awesome script that will build make a database, build a Google Earth KML, zip/transfer/delete to SDCARD. You can get it here: https://raw.github.com/binkybear/Kali-Pwnpad-Scripts/master/scripts/giskismet.sh Still not working? Troubleshoot! Is GPS on? Is Bluetooth on? Make sure you write "127.0.0.1" instead of localhost. Run BlueNMEA application In Terminal 1 -
Open Terminal 2 (roothsell) - Let's check if were receiving GPS data:
If your screen is flooding with coordinates it's working. ctrl-c and lets check gpsd
Check for any errors. I get dbus msg but it still works. Edited by binkybear, Aug 14 2013, 01:11 AM.

Just wanted to confirm your findings for gps in kismet. I had to change the port number in the configuration to match what was (I assume automatically) selected by GPS share WiFi, and uncheck the box that says "use WiFi Hot" to keep it from forcing me to set up tethering. I'm not using a 4G model Nexus, so there's no tethering options available to select when it asks. I'm going to try giskismet on my way home from the office, see if I can populate a map while driving on the highway

@ether - I found an alternate way besides "GPS over WIFI." It's called BlueNMEA and uses bluetooth instead. It seems to work more smoothly then GPS over Wifi. You still need to edit the kismet.conf file (located in /etc/kismet/kismet.conf in Kali). Make sure to uncomment: gps=true gpstype=gpsd gpshost=127.0.0.1:2947 |

I'm having problems with this... Installed GPS share wifi and gpsd socat... GPS share wifi works ok, and gives local port 12776.... I've edited both the kismet.conf file and the /opt/pwnpad/scripts/kismet.sh file Tried editing kismet.conf and script above to point the GPS share local port but no joy... Kismet reports no GPS device, or when GPS share wifi running, no signal Help much appreciated... 24 hours now and no joy... Thanks, Bob Noxious |

Bob Noxoius: I've updated instructions above--I did it a while back and it needed some cool pictures. Please let me know if you still have issues. Edited by binkybear, Aug 14 2013, 01:09 AM.

binkybear, Many thanks; changing localhost for 127.0.0.1 seemed to do the trick. I'm running it GPS share WiFi as per your original post and its working fine. Much appreciated... Bob Noxious... |

Hmmm.... Worked ok last night with GPS share Wifi, and kismet once I changed localhost to 127.0.0.1. then stopped kismet and restarted and can't see gps feed now... Done all the normal reboot stuff... I'll get a BT GPS receiver and try again tonight, but wanted to avoid having loads of different devices; like the idea of all in the tablet. Main reason to get the pwn pad was to do wifi, including war driving, with one compact device... so slightly annoyed. I'll have another go tonight (UK time) / debug and post findings... Right then, got this working... Many ways to skin a cat... As per my last post; last night at daft o'clock all was well for one run. then no joy.... I have now got it to work all the time: My solution: installed BlueNMEA as advised, and socat. edited nano /opt/pwnpad/scripts/kismet.sh as per previous post... "(socat TCP:127.0.0.1:4352 PTY,link=/tmp/gps & gpsd /tmp/gps) & kismet; bash" edited kismet conf file as: gpstype=serial. gpsdevice=/tmp/gps commented out gpsd options... start blueNMEA start kismet. All ok, every time so far... Noticed kismet misbehaving a little; ref not conforming to start up / shut down behaviour preferences; but otherwise ok. Noxious |

I confirmed with cat /tmp/gps that I am getting GPS data flowing. But everytime I start Kismet it is not picking up GPS data. I confirmed that: gps=true gpstype=gpsd And other settings match GPSD 3.4 loaded. Dave |

Dave, So you've narrowed down the problem to either socat or kismet. Just double check that socat is installed but I think the problem lies in kismet. Also check you wrote out the 127.0.0.1 and didn't put in localhost. You could try changing kismet config to match Bob's above your post. Do you see anything in kismet like "gps server not found"? |
